2024 is the year we get our finances in order.
Tori Dunlap is a financial expert and the founder of “Her First 100K.” I discovered her through her podcast Financial Feminist and was excited to read her first book: Financial Feminist: Overcome the Patriarchy’s Bullsh*t to Master Your Money and Build a Life You Love.
What I loved about this book was its expansive coverage of financial topics. This is not the end-all-be-all of financial knowledge, but a great primer for deciding where to start. Dunlap touches on so many different money topics I have been wondering about: investing, retirement, careers, debt, and much more. If you have a question about money, she probably discusses it. But, if you are looking for specifics, this book probably won’t have the answers. It is definitely geared toward younger readers, like me, who are starting their financial journey.
I have been listening to her podcast for a few months, and I heard a few topics and points repeated in this book. But it was nice to have these tips and ideas written down to reference. If you don’t want to read an entire book or just want help on a few specific topics, I highly recommend her podcast.
But what I find most valuable in this book is how she acknowledges the barriers and fears a lot of women experience around money. I never felt talked down to for not understanding something.
Financial Feminist is a down-to-earth introduction for sorting out your money. I recommend this book to anyone beginning their financial journey who needs a quick, shame-free primer.
